Pop Up Wedding

Its not everyday your lunch turns into a wedding ceremony, however that is what happened to these unsuspecting lunch guests. The idea of a 'pop up' wedding was brought to us by a couple a few months ago. They invited their family and friends for a big luncheon and had us spread the story we were setting up for a celebrity wedding the next day. They even went as far as having the film crew from the upcoming tv series Charly's Cake Angels come and set up the magnificent wedding cake. Just when their guests were about to complain about all the setup around them interrupting their lunch the couple stood up and announced the priest would be arriving in a few moments to marry them!

In conjunction with The Roving Ambassador and The City of Cape Town we recently hosted a group of children from Nyanga Township. The idea of the day was to expose the kids to the hospitality industry and hopefully lift their aspirations. The kids enjoyed a great nature walk through the fynbos followed by a meal on the deck and some ice cream cones. We finished the day off by making wishes and casting pebbles into the ocean to cement their dreams!
What a wonderful group of children and we wish them the brightest of futures.

25 February 2013
What a fabulous day in white! Some regular guests recently had a lavish cocktail party on our pool deck. Canapes and Cocktails were the order of the day with some amazing local artists to keep the guests enthralled. The SAMA Award-winning instrumental pop group Sterling EQ is made up of electric flutist Carina Bruwer, electric violinist Eriel Huang and electric cellist Ariella Caira. The all-woman supergroup performs more than 120 shows per year and Tintswalo Atlantic was lucky enough to host one of them!

Summer in Cape Town means that the fashion season has started! We were once again selected by renowned photographer Alexa Singer, this time for the swimwear catalogue shoot from swimwear brand LoveWaterLove. LoveWaterLove, South Africa’s hottest swimwear label, is a Cape Town-based company that is now run by Margit Roberts. Margit started the label with the aim of creating high fashion swimwear to compliment all figures. The swimwear is made locally using excellent quality fabric and trims imported from Italy and Spain. The look is fresh, flirty and utterly fabulous- think Bond bikini girls!

We were all pleasantly surprised when Zander Tyler, better known as Jack Parow arrived with his girlfriend Jenna Pietersen to celebrate their anniversary.

His exuberant nature won all the staff over within minutes of his arrival. Despite his somewhat rough, non conformist and partying personality in the public eye he is really just a great down to earth local capetonian. His recent hits which were both chart toppers include 'eksie ou' and hostokolosh'.

When asked about where his inspiration came from he had the following to say' "I bought that Now Monster Hits 4 and Snoop Dog's Doggystyle was on there and since then I always wanted to rap. I was in Standard 3 or 4, that's when you first decide what type of music you like. And I always liked Dr Seuss, I have always liked things that rhyme - its fun I dig it"

What a great musician and local icon! We look forward to seeing Jack and Jenna for their anniversary same time next year!

A two year anniversary brought two of South Africa’s celebrities though our doors recently. Jordy Smith who finished 2nd in the world on the pro sufing tour in 2012 and Lyndall Jarvis who was voted SA’s sexiest women in 2009.

Jordy in the epitome of a great South African Amabassador and was kind enough to say that Tintswalo Atlantic was “on the the best and most romantic spots he had ever stayed”.

Bending Colours, the surf movie based around Jordy Smith, has been generating buzz since its world premiere on November 5 and its been nominated for best movie in 2012 Surfer Poll Awards. Filmed in exotic locations such as South Africa, La Réunion, Hawaii and Indonesia, the film takes the viewer on an unparalleled cinematic trip showing the beauty, power and soul of surfing at its best.

Atlantic's Sunfish

Some places never cease to amaze, and Tintswalo Atlantic is one of those.

While walking towards the swimming pool I noticed a glint of light along the shoreline. It turned out to be well worth the closer inspection. I spotted a peculiar looking fish which I had never seen before. We emailed a copy to the Two Oceans Aquarium and found out it was a Slender Sunfish.  The slender sunfish (Ranzania laevis) is small compared to the giant ocean sunfish (Mola mola), which attains a size of 3m.

According to Two Oceans Aquarium Curator Michael Farquhar, “The strong south-easterly winds we have been experiencing recently result in upwellings of icy cold water off our west coast. Slender sunfish are a tropical species and prefer temperate conditions. The reason for them washing ashore is probably because they are trapped inshore and cannot function in the cold water.”
